Refrigerant Gases

Refrigerant gases warning graphic

It is now illegal to cause the release of Refrigeration gases containing CFCs into the environment, or to remove these gases from a system unless you are qualified to do so. This work can be carried out by one of our qualified commercial refrigeration engineers who use approved equipment.

It is also illegal to recharge or ‘top-up’ systems containing CFC gases. If this was needed on such a system, it would require the system to be emptied and then totally recharged with a safer type of refrigerant.

Coolheat commercial refrigeration engineers are both equipped and fully qualified for the removal of CFC gases. We can also change the type of refrigerant your existing system currently uses to a safer, alternative gas that does not contain CFCs.

F-Gas Regulations

Coolheat are approved by REFCOM for the safe handling of refrigerants and are able to carry out all aspects of the F-Gas Regulations.

Under current F-Gas Regulations, operators of stationary refrigerating equipment now have to:

  • Prevent leakage – leaks are to be repaired as soon as possible by certified personnel - and keep maintenance records detailing quantity and type of F-Gas used.
  • Carry out a regular fixed schedule of inspections for leaks for equipment with a refrigerant charge of 3Kg or more, following a standard leak checking and procedure laid down by the commission.
  • Where systems have a refrigerant charge of over 300Kg, they must in addition install fixed leakage detection systems.
  • Ensure the proper recovery of F-Gases by qualified personnel, to ensure their recycling, reclamation or destruction.
